Elections
Following a week of campaigning candidates hoping to become a school councillor presented their manifestoes to their classmates. There were lots of posters on display and lots of speeches to listen to.
During September we held our election day and it was very tense. Pupils went into our small hall to cast their votes. We had borrowed our local council’s polling booths and ballot box. Pupils who were participating in the election process had their names typed onto a ballot paper. Classmates voted in secret and the results were read out in assembly.

Some of our achievements
Our School Council has been up and running now for over five years and during that time we have been busy helping to make improvements to our school and the wider community.

Our School Council has helped our school to achieve Healthy Schools Status. We have worked hard at promoting healthy eating, walking & biking to school weeks and helping children to work and play together. Together with our classmates, staff, FRPS and Govenors we have helped to gather ideas and develop our school grounds. We now have lots of exciting and challenging equipment for children to use during the school day and a bike shelter too.

We have helped to improve the environment inside school too. We now have mirrors in our cloakrooms and more drinking water facilities in school. All classes recycle paper helping to keep our school and local environment cleaner and greener! Together with staff and our lunchtime supervisors we helped to introduce our ‘Dinky Dinnertime Discs’ rewards. These are given to children who have made a real effort to achieve the lunchtime target of the week and who have behaved appropriately both in the dining room and on the playground.

Charities

We have supported a variety of charities over the years. This school year we collected our pennies for Children in Need and we recently had a Dress Down Day to raise money for the people of Haiti following the terrible earthquake there. Altogether a total of £1,231.30 was collected.

Our chosen charity for the year 2009 - 2010 was BASIC. This charity supports people who have brain and spinal injuries and it is based at Hope Hospital. Through lots of different fundraising activities and working with FRPS, we were able to present a cheque to Mr Golightly.

Our chosen charity for 2010 - 2011 was 'Downs Syndrome Association'. A massive £2531.59 was raised!

The minutes are then displayed on the school council notice board for everyone to read.Following every meeting, school councillors find time to feedback to their classmates. They gather ideas or concerns to bring to the next meeting. Two councillors ensure that our Head teacher, Mrs Coleman, is informed of progress at meetings and decisions made.
