Head's Welcome

Welcome to the Romiley Primary School Website. I hope that within the site you will capture a flavour of the ethos of our school. However, all the information on the site is no substitute for a personal visit to the school. It is only in making such a visit that you will capture the essence of what makes our school tick. Many parents who have enrolled their children have said that, though it is not measurable, it is the feel of the school which has attracted them. Clearly the quality and experience of our staff goes a long way to explain the ethos to which people feel so drawn. Our last three OfSTED reports (2004, 2008 and 2011) have all recognised the caring nature of our school. We are pleased that OfSTED 2011 graded the school as 'Outstanding' for the effectiveness of the care, guidance and support we give.

Having been in the education profession for more than 30 years, I have a wealth of experience upon which to draw. I have taught all ages from Nursery to Year 6. I have always given my time and commitment to the children in the schools I have taught at. I have held various posts of responsibilities in those schools culminating in being Deputy Headteacher here at Romiley Primary School. Mr Furse, the then Headteacher, was looking to retire after being sole Headteacher for nearly 20 years; from 2008 we were co-headteachers of the school. This was a fantastic time where we utilized each other's strengths and both learned from each other. As Mr Furse retired on 31st October 2010, I then became Headteacher.

I have a clear vision of the kind of school I want Romiley to be. It is often said that Romiley Primary School is at the heart of the community and it is with this in mind that I promote the values of honesty, endevour, achievement, respect and truth. The staff, parents and governors share this vision which is based on sound educational principles and good community values. We believe in the achievment of high standards for each individual based on the principle of "only your best is good enough". Every child is good at something and as such we aim to develop the whole child through providing not only academic opportunities, but also a range of creative, musical, sporting and dramatic skills which develop life skills and raise each child's self esteem. We encourage all children to give as well as recieve from their local community and contributing to it.

I trust that this website will be informative and helpful in further developing the existing   co-operation between home and school so that, in partnership together, we can serve the best interests of the children in our care.
