“Learning Together”

Romiley Primary School is situated on the outskirts of Greater Manchester in the suburban area of Romiley. The school has served the community since 1867 and has operated on its current site since 1914.

Our school is a wonderful mix of both old and new which blend together superbly.  The ‘old’ building was built in 1914 with a £2,000,000 extension built in 2005.  The school has grown having 252 on roll in 1914 to now being a two form entry school with approximately 459 children on roll aged from 3 years to 11 years old.  Despite land being used for the 2005 extension we still have a vast amount of outdoor space.  A dedicated Foundation Stage outdoor play, a KS1 play area, two KS2 play areas, an ‘all weather’ pitch, a ‘Quiet Garden’ and a very large field make sure that our children have plenty of space in which to enjoy the outdoors. It is thanks to our dedicated PTA (known as FRPS – Friends of Romiley Primary School) that each key stage has quality, large equipment outdoors on which the children are able to exercise their bodies! The school has always been successful on the strength of its people – it now has a building fit for education in the 21st Century. Romiley Primary School is a popular school with both the school’s Nursery and School generally being oversubscribed.

The catchment area covers the whole of Romiley village making Romiley Primary a true community school. Strong and long established ties with the local community are a strength of the school. We take our music, drama, art and sport into the community for the benefit of local residents in the belief that it is a valuable way in which to teach community values and respect to our young learners. We visit many clubs and organisations to forge stronger links between the children and their community. The school upholds the belief that we live in an active and lively community and we must teach our children to respect the community and work together to maintain its vibrancy for future generations. Children constantly meet those who visit us on a regular basis to support us in the classroom, in music, in sport and a whole range of activities.

We have a vast number of staff each bringing with them a range of personal qualities and expertise that truly gives our children with the best possible care and education we can provide. Two members of the teaching staff have been recognised in two successive years as Teacher of the Year , North West and Highly Commended. We have a low turnover of staff – once here they do not seem to leave!

The school is also supported by the Governing Body and the P.T.A. known as FRPS – Friends of Romiley Primary School.  The Governing Body are fully committed to supporting and developing the philosophies and ethos of the school while FRPS are forever active in raising funds to enhance the teaching and learning within the lessons and the environment.

On the school site there is also a privately run, long established, organisation providing before and after school care as well as a pre-school playgroup. We work closely with Network Nurseries enabling wrap around care. Any child attending the school Nursery can also attend Network Nursery’s playgroup – staff in both settings ensure children are transferred safely.

We also work very closely with our local high schools. Currently, year 6 is taught Spanish with years 3,4 and 5 being taught French. There are excellent links between Romiley Primary School and both Marple Hall High School and Werneth High School. Werneth provides our many and varied inter-school physical education activities for children from year 1 through to year 6.

Moral values are highly prized and promoted by all staff both in terms of their personal behaviour and in the attitudes and values they convey to children through daily interaction, assemblies, class teaching and the expectations they have of pupils and their attitudes to one another. The school has very high expectations of good behaviour and this is reflected in a well ordered community where pupils have a clear sense of right and wrong. Honesty, endeavour, achievement, respect and truth, are just some of the values that the school constantly strives to promote.

Visitors to our school regularly say they feel a warmth and a sense of being welcomed and valued as soon as they come through the door. Many parents who choose to send their children to our school cite the special but unquantifiable feel they get when they first cross the threshold.

We welcome visitors at any time – please contact the school office to make an appointment.

Welcome to the Romiley Primary School Website. I hope that within the site you will capture a flavour of the ethos of our school. However, all the information on the site is no substitute for a personal visit to the school. It is only in making such a visit that you will capture the essence of what makes our school tick. Many parents who have enrolled their children have said that, though it is not measurable, it is the feel of the school which has attracted them. Clearly the quality and experience of our staff goes a long way to explain the ethos to which people feel so drawn. Ofsted (July 2011) commented that the key to Romiley's success is "the outstanding care, guidance and support it provides for all pupils....".
